The Teach Computing Curriculum has moved to Trinket

Over the last few months, you’ve asked us to consider how we share Python programming files within the Teach Computing Curriculum. Previously, we opted for the online IDE, Repl.it; however, due to recent changes to the external platform, we encountered a number of issues, mainly delayed loading times for several files.
Great news! We’ve moved all the Python programming files within the secondary Teach Computing Curriculum to an alternative platform, Trinket.io.
Most of the links in existing versions of Teach Computing Curriculum resources use ‘ncce.io’ short links, which we’ve redirected to Trinket. This means there should be no interruption for you and your students.

What is Trinket.io?
Trinket is an online IDE, which lets you run and write code in any browser, on any device. Trinkets work instantly, with no need to log in, download plugins, or install software.
Do I need to update my existing materials?
The majority of the links used in Teach Computing Curriculum materials are short links, which we’ve already redirected to the new programming files on Trinket.io. There are no actions required from you; your students will simply load Trinket instead of Repl.it.
Should your students come across a Repl.it link in existing materials, you should be able to download the updated version, which have had all the links updated Teach Computing Curriculum.
Have TCC units been updated?
A small number of units have been updated due to minor issues with the move from Repl.it to Trinket. We advise that the following units be re-downloaded, as they contain updated activities, teaching materials, and alternative code links:
• Year 9: Python programming with sequences of data
• GCSE: Programming part 5 - Strings and lists
Do the existing Repl.it links still work?
We appreciate that some teachers may still wish to use the direct links to Repl.it files; we haven’t removed any of these programming files. Please note that if you’re using the ncce.io short links, you will automatically be directed to the updated files on Trinket.
