Results day: celebrating GCSE computer science
22 August 2019
Today, hundreds of thousands of students across the UK are celebrating after receiving their GCSE results.
Figures show that the number of students opting to take GCSE computer science has increased again in 2019, for the sixth year in succession, by 7.6%. This growth in popularity includes an impressive rise in the number of entries from girls in computer science, which has increased by 14.5%.
Attainment figures also show the proportion of computer science entries achieving top grades (9 to 7) has increased this year, and that there has been an even greater increase in the proportion of students achieving a good pass (9 to 4).
What next? Support for teachers and schools
GCSE results day is a great time to start preparing for the next academic year. If you're looking to increase your school's capacity to teach GCSE computer science, we can support you through the Computer Science Accelerator Programme. The programme is free for all teachers from state-funded education, with bursaries available for your school to cover time away from the classroom to attend CPD.
We offer support for teachers at all levels, whether you’re a non-specialist looking to gain confidence across the curriculum, or already teaching at this level and looking to improve and maintain your knowledge. Find out more
