National Careers Week 2023
06 March 2023

This year National Careers Week will run from 6 to 11 March 2023. The aim of this week is to spread career guidance and resources for students. In doing this, it provides an opportunity for students to gain inspiration to make informed decisions about their futures and the possible career paths.
We have selected resources from across the NCCE to highlight the computing related careers available.
Primary resources
Barefoot careers resource: technology match – for ages 5-7
This lesson will help your pupils learn about people’s jobs and some of the technology they use. Learning takes place through discussion, a card matching activity and creating new cards for others to match.
Computing at school resource: Computer people and their stories - for key stage 2
This ready to use lesson features people past and present who work in computing, as well as describing various jobs within the computing field. This resource is complete with a full PowerPoint, worksheet and has three activities including a word search, missing words and creating a poster.
Cross-phase resources
Support from STEM Ambassadors
STEM Ambassadors are volunteers who offer their time free of charge to bring STEM subjects to life. Your school can request a visit, either face-to-face or virtually, to inspire your students about the range of computing careers. We offer short courses for primary and secondary teachers to help you get the most from local volunteers.
Careers interviews and resources
Gain inspiration from the NCCE’s selection of resources and stories to support your teaching. This page on the CAS website also offers resources and inspiration to help young people make informed choices about their future and demystify career and education pathways.
Secondary resources
The world of work - for key stage 4 students
This unit from the Teach Computing Curriculum will facilitate a deeper comprehension of the methods employed by organisations and the impact the use of IT in the working environment has on all stakeholders.
Computer science journeys - for key stage 4 and 5 students
Discover Isaac Computer Science’s monthly interview series and learn from passionate educators and recently-graduated computer scientists who are in a huge range of computing-related fields!
Computing at school resource: pathways into technology - for key stage 4 and 5 students
The London and Essex Computing Hub produced a series of short engaging videos (each 5-10 minutes long) aimed at students encouraging them to choose Computer Science. Each video asks why and how the interviewee chose their career path, as well as the benefits of a career in technology
